As a member of the DSCC:
- I will work to establish a policy of fighting Republicans in every district. We should never allow a Democrat to go unsupported in any election (as long as that Democrat truly supports the ideals of the party). We should always be looking to make inroads in any district controlled by Republicans. There should never be a district in Louisiana where a Republican is considered “safe” and we should always fight the Republican myths about what Democrats stand for.
- I will work to establish permanent precinct captains and teams in every precinct. This will allow Democratic candidates to be plugged into an existing organization with an efficient get out the vote program.
- I will push for tougher enforcement of the censure provision in the rules of the State party. Democrats who support Republicans against endorsed Democratic candidates or who vote for Republicans for legislative leadership positions (like Speaker of the House) need to be punished, campaigned against, and replaced.
- I will push for an amendment of the state party rules to allow for easier removal of inactive members at the state and local level. Currently, a member of a Parish Executive Committee can submit on proxy every three months and be considered “active”. That is not the way to support an active party in Louisiana.
There are many more things that can be done to encourage an active party, but we wont get it done by electing people who have made the problems worse. The only way to bring change is to elect new blood into the party.
